DAY 1: AVIGNON
Boarding is from 6.00pm in Avignon. Welcome on board, check-in and crew presentation. Dinner on board. Moor for the night in Avignon.
DAY 2: AVIGNON - TARASCON
Breakfast on board. Set off by coach for an optional visit of Les Baux de Provence, listed since 1998 as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. The village has quite breath-taking views over Arles, the Camargue and the Alpilles mountain chain. Along with your guide, you will stop at Sarragan where there are wonderful views of les Baux de Provence. Then there will be some free time in les Baux de Provence. On the return journey, stop in Saint Rémy de Provence, a real masterpiece of Provençal Romanesque art. Return by coach and rejoin the ship for lunch. The cruise continues on to Tarascon. Arrival in Tarascon in the early evening. Dinner on board and moor for the night.
DAY 3: TARASCON- ARLES -GALLICIAN
Breakfast on board. Set off by coach to discover how olive oil is produced in Provence. Your visit of the olive estate will finish with a tasting of the products on the farm. Transfer to Arles and beginning of the optional visit of this delightfully charming town. Arles is the largest city in France in terms of area, and is over 2000 years old, with many fine monuments and exceptionally well-preserved ancient architectural masterpieces. You will see the remains of the Roman Empire here (the Roman Amphitheatre, the Theatre Antique, St Trophime Square and much more). We walk back to the ship for lunch. We set sail again. During the afternoon we cruise along the canal between Arles and Gallician. Arrival in the evening. Dinner on board and moor for the night in Gallician.
DAY 4: GALLICIAN - AIGUES-MORTES
Breakfast on board and then departure on the optional excursion to the Camargue, an enormous nature reserve where the sea and fenland are inhabited by an extraordinary array of water fowl and birds. There will be some free time in the delightful town of les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a remarkable twice-yearly pilgrimage centre for gypsies from all over Europe, with an interesting fortified church. Return on board for lunch and set sail for Aigues-Mortes. Arrival during the afternoon in this striking walled medieval town which has a tumultuous history and many towers that remind visitors that the town was built to be a military port. Dinner on board and moor for the night.
DAY 5: AIGUES-MORTES - PALAVAS-LES-FLOTS
Breakfast on board and then departure for the optional guided visit of Aigues-Mortes. This old walled town has a prestigious heritage, sitting in the middle of marshlands in one of the loveliest natural sites in Provence. Transfer to Salin du Midi, where you will board a tourist train and set off on a discovery tour to the Salins du Midi salt works, with a stop at the Museum of Salt. Return on board by coach for lunch and the boat sets sail again for Palavas-les-Flots. Arrival in the late afternoon and transfer to the city center for free time in this seaside resort. Palavas-les-Flots has retained much of its identity from over the last 300 years or so. In recent decades, this stretch of coastline has had some major upheavals relating to the development of tourism, and so the resort is quite unique. Dinner on board and moor for the night.
DAY 6: PALAVAS-LES-FLOTS – SETE (2)
The boat sets sail early this morning and heads for Sète (2). Breakfast on board. Enjoy the morning spent afloat to admire the beautiful scenery along the Canal du Midi. Lunch is taken during the cruise. In the early afternoon, arrival in Sète and set off by coach with a guide to visit the historic centre of Sète. Often called the “Singular Island”, Sète is quite a unique town, criss-crossed with canals and little alleyways. After the visit, set off by coach for Mont Saint-Clair from where you will discover stunning views as well as seeing the Saint-Clair Cross and Notre Dame de la Salette Chapel. Return on board. Gala Dinner and evening’s entertainment on board. Moor for the night.
DAY 7: SETE (2)
Breakfast on board, Disembark around 9.00am. End of our journey.
(1) The stop at Sète may be replaced by a stop at Frontignan, depending on weather conditions and the availability of suitable mooring points.
